Aloe vera (lat. aloe barbadensis miller) resembles a cactus in appearance, but belongs to the lily family. It is one of the oldest known medicinal plants, native to the dry and semi-dry regions of Africa, Central and South America. The gel-like leaf interior, which stores water and nutrients for long periods of drought, was used by advanced civilizations thousands of years ago to maintain beauty and well-being.
Of the more than 300 species of aloe, "Aloe barbadensis miller" has the best properties for our skin and the human organism.

Our aloe vera plants are cultivated, harvested and processed in Mexico by small and dedicated farms in accordance with the guidelines of controlled organic cultivation. Our raw material supplier is a member of the International Aloe Science Council, which sets quality criteria, certifies products and deals with their effects.
We buy our raw materials directly from the producers, pay fair prices and thus support the local farmers and producers. In return, we can rely on the highest quality products.
The aloe leaves are harvested by hand. First, the aloe leaves are cleaned in a water bath. The lower parts of the leaf base, the outermost leaf tip and the short, sharp spines on the leaf edges are then removed with a special knife. In the next step, the top layer of leaves is carefully peeled off on the top and bottom of the leaf without damaging the plant containers and disposed of. Although many larger companies have now switched to mechanical methods, this laborious filleting process is still carried out by hand at our producer. This ensures that all leaf components that could contain the bitter substance aloin are completely removed. The inside of the leaf, which contains the aloe gel, is then spread out on a work surface and sorted. Only the best pieces go into a modern stainless steel press to extract the juice.
The inside of the leaf is then ground and pasteurized (65°C). Coarse fibers and pulp are removed before filtering. As the juice is very alkaline and microorganisms multiply very quickly in this environment, citric acid (< 0.03%) is added to stabilize the pH value. The juice is pasteurized again (90°C for 2 minutes) and then bottled. The product is ready for dispatch.
After production and before distribution, the juice is checked in the laboratory for compliance with the microbiological parameters. The values of the hydroxyanthracene derivatives (aloin, etc.) are also determined.
The aloe probably originated on the Arabian Peninsula and takes its name from the Arabic alloeh. Today, it is mainly cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions such as Africa, South America, the Caribbean, India, China and South Africa. Mexico is one of the most important main cultivation areas.
Only the leaf gel is used in the manufacture of our aloe vera products. This is because the whole leaf or leaf bark contains aloin, which is considered poisonous.
The healing power of aloe vera has been known since time immemorial. We don't know exactly how long, but great names - such as Cleopatra, who used it to treat her skin, Alexander the Great, who may have used it to treat wounds, or Columbus - already appreciated this valuable plant. In some cultures, it is even revered as a healer. In Mexico - the most important cultivation area - the leaves are attached above the entrance to the house because they are said to drive away diseases.
Although many larger companies have now switched to machine processing, our suppliers still carry out this laborious filleting process by hand. This ensures that all leaf components that could contain the bitter substance aloin are actually completely removed. The inside of the leaf, which contains the aloe gel, is then spread out on a work surface and sorted. Only the best pieces go into a modern stainless steel press to extract the juice.
Aloe vera can also be mixed with other juices without hesitation, such as in smoothies or breakfast orange juice. The typical fresh and sour taste gives it its own pep.
