Thanks to our 30 years of experience, passion and motivation, we have become a leading guarana expert.
Guarana, lat. paullinia cupana, is a climbing plant from the soap tree family, which is native to the tropical rainforest. Long before the first European settlers arrived in the Amazon region, the indigenous people discovered this climbing plant with red fruits and dark seeds. They called it "warana", which means "fruit like a human eye". In the mythology of the Guaraní people, warana has a special spiritual significance. They believe that guarana emerged from the eyes of a divine child who was blessed by a deity to give his people strength, vigilance and vital energy.
Guarana is traditionally used as a powder, which is obtained by grinding the dried seeds.

| The most important ingredients of guarana | Guarana contains secondary plant substances such as caffeine, tannins, saponins and polyphenols. |
| Natural and gentle caffeine | In coffee beans, caffeine is mainly present in free form. In guarana, on the other hand, the caffeine is largely bound to tannins. This binding ensures that the caffeine is released more slowly, which means that the effect lasts longer and causes fewer sudden peaks or crashes. We feel gently stimulated and not hyped up, as with coffee. |
| Anti-ageing | For the indigenous peoples living in the Brazilian rainforest, guarana is considered the elixir of youth. Guarana is also increasingly being used in anti-wrinkle face creams. |

Guarana fruits are ready to harvest as soon as the black seed bursts through the red skin. The harvest is carefully carried out by hand during the Brazilian summer months from December to April. The harvested fruit is stored in a hut for 4-6 days for fermentation. During this process, the skin separates from the kernel and the caffeine content increases to at least 3%. The fermented kernels are then threshed on mats. The red skin is then separated from the kernel by hand.
The hand-picked kernels are then placed in a water tank for washing. They are then gently dried in the traditional way in clay pots at a low temperature for 8-12 hours. After a few hours - sometimes even days - they are spread out in sheltered huts to dry out and reduce the moisture content to 7%. Finally, a fan in a specially developed wind tunnel removes any remaining soil and dust from the kernels.
After drying, the guarana seeds are ground, filled into sacks and taken to the warehouse.
A laboratory analysis determines the final moisture content and microbiological values. In addition, compliance with the limit values for pesticides and heavy metals is checked. If the results are satisfactory, the guarana powder is ready for sale.
Guarana comes from the Amazon rainforest in Brazil and has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples as a natural energy booster.
Amazon guarana is sustainably and organically harvested – sometimes even from wild growth – and carefully processed to preserve its full nutrient content, making it a powerful natural supplement for energy, focus, and vitality.
Guarana is a plant from the Amazon region whose seeds are particularly rich in natural caffeine. Guarana is used as a natural energy source to combat fatigue, enhance concentration, and boost performance – all without artificial additives.
Guarana seeds are just another name for guarana seeds, i.e. the part of the guarana plant that is used for consumption. The guarana seeds grow wrapped in a red plant husk. The seeds are only ripe when the shell has burst open and they are harvested.
Guarana delivers naturally slow-releasing caffeine, providing sustained energy without the sudden “caffeine crash” often associated with coffee.
It stimulates alertness, supports concentration, and boosts metabolism, helping you stay energized and perform at your best for hours.
The caffeine in coffee is bound to a chlorogenic acid-potassium complex. After roasting and contact with stomach acid, the caffeine is released quickly - it acts quickly but only briefly and can irritate the stomach.
Guaraná is different: here the caffeine is bound to polyphenols and tannins (secondary plant substances). These delay the release so that the caffeine is only absorbed in the intestine. This is easy on the stomach, prevents excessive stomach acid production and ensures a gentle, long-lasting effect - often lasting 5 to 9 hours.
Even people who are sensitive to coffee generally tolerate the caffeine from guarana seeds very well.
The caffeine from the guarana plant takes effect after around 45 minutes, which is how long it takes for the caffeine to be absorbed into the bloodstream via the gastrointestinal tract. From there, the guarana caffeine acts on the central nervous system and the muscles and lasts between 5 and 9 hours until the caffeine is completely broken down.
Guarana can be taken on an empty stomach, but it is best to test carefully how the body reacts to it.
The caffeine in guarana seeds has a similar effect to that in mate or matcha. However, guarana contains a higher concentration of caffeine.
Guarana is known for its stomach-friendly effect. In contrast to coffee, guarana is particularly well tolerated by people who have stomach problems. It also has a mild antipyretic effect and is known for its invigorating effect. However, it is precisely this invigorating effect that can develop into a side effect if too much guarana is consumed, just as is the case with high coffee consumption. The following symptoms can occur: Trembling, restlessness, headaches, palpitations, diarrhea. These symptoms are not generally side effects, but rather symptoms caused by an overdose.
Guarana is mainly available in powder form, which can be consumed pure or processed into energy bars, tablets, capsules or in combination with other superfoods. In liquid form, it is usually added to drinks. However, this is guarana concentrate, which is obtained by extraction with alcohol, dichloromethane or ethyl acetate. The extraction process can increase the caffeine content to around 10%, making it more intense but less smooth, and as isolated caffeine it no longer has the long-lasting effect of natural caffeine.
Guarana powder can be easily mixed into smoothies, juices, yogurt, or water.
Recommended dosage: About 1–3 g of powder per day, depending on the desired effect and individual tolerance.
Pure guarana powder has a slightly bitter, earthy taste. To enhance its flavor, it is recommended to mix the powder into fruit juices, smoothies, or yogurt.
Important: Only high-quality, finely ground organic guarana powder – such as Amazonas Guarana – dissolves easily when stirred with a spoon or whisk and offers a pleasantly mild taste.
Guarana is best taken in the morning or before physical or mental activity—such as before exercise, studying, or long workdays. It is generally not recommended in the evening, as its natural caffeine content may affect sleep, although this can vary from person to person.
Our premium guarana is available at online pharmacies and trusted health stores.
When buying guarana online, look for origin (Amazonas), organic certification, and a high caffeine content to ensure maximum quality, potency, and natural energy-boosting effects.
