Lapacho tea has a long tradition as a remedy in the rainforests of Central and South America. Due to its positive properties, it is also known as the "tree of life".
Catuaba, lat. Trichilia catigua, belongs to the redwood family and is native to the tropical rainforests of South America. The Tupi Indians from Brazil describe the miraculous power of catuaba bark in many of their songs and gave the tree the name "good tree" centuries ago.

We buy our raw materials directly from the producers and pay fair prices. In this way, we support local farmers and producers. AMAZONAS bark teas come exclusively from wild collections and are produced according to the principle of the conservation harvesting method. Only a small part of the bark is ever removed in order to preserve the tree. In this way, the rainforest is used in an ecologically sensible way and preserved at the same time.
The tea harvesting process is carefully designed: only mature and healthy trees are selected. Young trees are not used so as not to impair their natural development.
The lapacho or catuaba bark is carefully peeled from the trunk by hand using a sharp-edged knife. In order not to damage the tree, only part of the bark is harvested. The remaining bark regenerates so that the tree can live on.
Only the inner bark is used for lapacho tea. This is carefully separated from the outer bark. Catuaba tea contains both the inner and outer bark of the catuaba tree. The separated pieces are then stored in a dark, dry room. After quality control, the bark is cleaned of leaf debris, dust and soil in a kind of wind tunnel. The air-cleaned and then sun-dried (over 3 days for Catuaba, over 5 days for Lapacho) pieces of bark are crushed. A vibrating sieve then separates the last dust and the powder produced during the crushing process from the bark.
After a laboratory analysis, the bark tea is then properly packaged and prepared for shipment.
The lapacho tree is native to South and Central America, particularly Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.
Lapacho tea hot: Boil 1 tablespoon of tea in ½ liter of water for about 5 minutes and then leave to infuse for about 15 minutes. A small splash of lemon juice added to the tea when infusing helps to release the minerals better. The bark tea can be drunk hot or cold.
Lapacho iced tea: allow hot tea to cool and turn it into a refreshing drink by adding red grape juice and ice cubes. Tip for hot summer days: enjoy the cold lapacho tea with fresh mint and pieces of dried apple - delicious!
The taste of lapacho tea is slightly tart with a mild vanilla note and is similar to the taste of rooibos tea. It is also described as "unusual, but not unpleasant". A little honey and lemon juice can give the tea a fresh and pleasant note.
Catuaba has a tangy, full-bodied flavor.
Yes, lapacho tea can be used as a bath additive. The active ingredients it contains, such as lapachol, flavonoids and antioxidants, can have a calming, anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect.
1. prepare the bath additive: use about 5-6 tablespoons of lapacho bark for a full bath. Bring 2-3 liters of water to the boil. Add the lapacho bark to the water and leave to simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the tea to cool slightly. Pour the brew through a sieve to remove the bark pieces.
2. prepare the bath water: fill the bathtub with warm water (approx. 37-39 °C). Pour the strained lapacho tea into the bath water.
3. enjoy the bath: soak for about 15-20 minutes to absorb the beneficial ingredients through the skin. Avoid using soap or other bath additives so as not to diminish the effect of the lapacho tea.
